Prymal Passion!

Hartwood---prymal_obsessionPrymal_Lust-Jianne_Carlo-200x320There’s nothing I love more about writing than beginning a new story. It’s analogous to the heady days of a new relationship. That heart-throbbing dance between two lovers—will he, will he not? Is this one going the long haul? Or will it be a novella? Since I’m a pantser, even if I’ve outlined a vague plot, those first three chapter are my version of opening three presents, a little bit at a time. I thought it might be fun to share the whole writing experience for Prymal Passion with everyone.

The way a new book usually happens for me is this way. While I’m doing something else, for Passion I was in a Zumba class and a gym bitch knocked me down. While I scrambled to standing amidst moving bodies and attempted to make eye contact with Ms. Bitch (coward went to the other side of the room), I thought, “Bandit would’ve escorted her out of the room pronto.”

For the rest of the Zumba session, I was in Bandit zone. By the time the class ended, I had my first chapter for Prymal Passion mapped out in my head. Hey—not once have I ever claimed to be normal.

When I got home I sat down and wrote this:

Excerpt – Prymal Passion, Prymal Book Three: Release Date: December 4, 2014

Target sighted.

Adrenalin torpedoed through Bandit.

He let loose the beasts in him. His intensified hearing caught the minutest of movements including the slight crunching of pebbles. He followed the sound and spotted a Two-Striped Garter snake belly-rippling past his booted feet to climb the narrow gorge to the left of the rock crevice in which he crouched.

The earthy scent of a burrowing creature wafted to his nostrils. The odor came from up-wind, and Bandit’s heightened wolf vision honed onto a mound of fresh dirt that signaled a Pocket Gopher’s den. A grin lifted his lips and he traced the snake’s pursuit of its prey.

His peripheral vision trapped a fluttery skulking.

Bandit pressed his cheek to the cool stone and laser-focused on the spot where the noise originated—a jagged outcrop a good five feet below him and at a forty-five degree angle from the top of the two boulders he was sandwiched between. A normal human being wouldn’t have noticed the furtive change in the gloaming patterns, but to a Rogue shifter with both wolf and big cat DNA, the prey’s slight stirring acted as a homing beacon.

The shadow he chased froze.

Bandit relaxed his muscles and concentrated on dropping his escalating pulse. The lion in him relished toying with his quarry. Especially when said quarry became aware of being hunted. Like his did now.

His target’s sixth sense had kicked in.

Too bad it wouldn’t work in his favor tonight.

Fan-f**King-tastic. Now the real fun began.

Bandit couldn’t stifle a quick smirk.

This quarry’s illusiveness grated his craw. His fellow Prymal pack members ribbed him without mercy each dawn when he returned to Prymal’s headquarters with sweet dick all to show after several nights of stalking the intruder. That a lone interloper eluded his famed tracking and scenting skills both irritated and peeved him.

Not that any of the others, including a majority of the either active or retired Navy SEALs proved more successful. His cell vibrated. He checked the text sent to him by retired UFC fighter, Kydd Kolton, who manned Prymal’s underground security center. Two codes, the first indicating no human or shifter heat traces within the immediate vicinity aside from him and the target below. The second encrypted symbols and numbers specified that no living beings occupied any of the nine empty prefab cottages dotted about River Ranch.

For seven nights in a row, the interloper he tracked evaded his snares and booby traps. Bandit suppressed a snort. Hah! Not only did the f**Ker remain free, but he now had some food, water, and a blanket, all stolen from the bare-bone essentials stored in one of the cottages—the one he’d picked as his own.

Yippee-ki-yay motherf**Ker. You’re going down.

Bandit shifted, maintaining his transformation at a sloth’s pace. His double animal genetic makeup resulted in his transmutation into a creature with a lion’s mane and the sleek body of a gray wolf, but the claws and paws of a monster cat. He used feline stealth to creep to the apex of the boulder. Flattened his body to the curve of the rock and chased the murkiness for a ghost of change in the scenery below him, a nervous twitch, an unexpected noise, a hint of a different fragrance in the still atmosphere.

An infinitesimal flicker.

Bandit ran his coarsened tongue over the point of one canine. His fangs ached. He tested the air sifting the various night aromas carried by a sudden, but lackadaisical draft. The heavy pungency of rotting flesh dominated the regular nocturnal fragrances so prevalent in the hills overlooking San Diego. From the direction and rankness carried on the wilting gust, he guessed the dead animal lay on the other side of his canyon.

Minutes ticked by.

A half-moon breached the mountain summit to the east casting silvery beams on the opposite hillside. The blackness of the arroyo remained unabated, but not for long. Within minutes, bright beams would illuminate the gloom where the target hid. His quarry faced two choices, a sprinted escape or full exposure.

He felt rather than saw or heard his victim tensing. Zoned in on a flashed glint of steel and sneered at the puny, serrated blade clutched in a small fist. The hunter in him went full-frontal. His predatory instincts snapped into control and he absorbed the target’s position, back dug deep into loose dirt and pebbles, knees drawn, hands on either side of tensed hips.

Bandit drew his hind legs into attack position. Readied, jammed the pads of his paws into the rock, and pounced. He shifted the second his legs cleared the stone, the change instantaneous.

The shadow sprang forward. Leapt the narrow coulee, landed back-first, and slid down the loose dirt and gravel.

In mid-air, he watched his quarry scramble and fumble and raise both fists. Too late, he spied his victim’s other weapon, a pocket pistol.

Bandit rolled sideways and tucked.

The bullet whizzed past his ducked head.

Pffff!

Honed reflexes had him analyzing the sound even as he twisted and jerked into strike stance—the unmistakable sound of a wet suppressor on maybe an FMP .45.

Seconds before hitting his prey, he roared, and stretched his legs and arms wide in a spread-eagle posture.

Grinned with satisfaction when his full weight crushed the interloper into emitting a winded grunt. The impact jarred the pistol out of his target’s grip. Bandit followed the gun’s pinging freefall down the gulley.

For a second, his victim didn’t budge.

A sharp lance bit Bandit’s right shoulder.

F**K.

Surprise blunted Bandit’s reflexes when his target stabbed his shoulder again. He caged the attacking f**Kwad and jammed his fist into the asshole’s solar plexus.

Heard the gasp as the breath was sucked out of the f**Ker. Took advantage of his prey’s stunned state, seized the f**Ker’s bony wrists with one hand, and yanked them high above his captive’s head.

The dick-head refused to yield and tried to knee him in the groin.

Bandit rotated and just managed to avoid the blow. As he bore down on the slight form beneath him, and trapped the frantically squirming body with his pelvis and thighs, a whiff of an enticing aroma pooled heat to his groin.

What the f**K?

Shocked by his body’s response to the scent, he lifted to one side to study the person beneath him.

The little shit bit his earlobe.

Hot blood trailed down Bandit’s nape. He inhaled and froze for a heartbeat, the perfume radiating from his victim at once tantalizing and tempting. His dick stirred.

What in f**King hell?

Bandit had total control over his sexuality. Never got an unwanted boner. And now he had a jones for a f**King male? He clenched his back teeth and willed his idiotic f**King shaft flaccid.

Hope you enjoyed.

It’s a frumpy Friday here in South Florida. I awoke to rain, thunder, and lightning, and the downpour hasn’t stopped—not for a second. If a rainy day falls on a weekend, most people are upset—-not me because it’s an excuse to stay in bed and read all day.

Sigh. But I have the EDJ to contend with and must deal with the road messes certain to be caused by Mother Nature’s temper tantrum today.

Have a fabulous Friday!

Prymal Lust is a TOP PICK at The Romance Reviews!

Prymal_Lust-Jianne_Carlo-200x320What a great start(but late) start to my week. Here’s a TOP PICK 5 STAR review of Prymal Lust from The Romance Reviews!!!

They are alpha males, wolf-shifters and navy Seals. They are hot, dangerous and ready to love the-only-one. PRYMAL LUST is a steamy ride full of pheromones and adrenaline.

Tania is a Wylfen wolf, which means she is an aristocrat and belong to the top tier of the wolves world. However, her feelings lately are the same of every other wolf on the planet: she needs to get down, sweaty and dirty on a bed with a willing male; anyone but a wolf will do.

Axe is on a mission; he can’t have any distraction right now. Of course he has no idea that his hormones and the mating call will show up when he is in the middle of an explosive situation.

Can their mating works? They only have to bring down a corrupted government, battle their instincts against century-old-prejudice and begin a new species.

Ms. Carlo creates another promising paranormal series, bringing fresh ideas in a very creative well-crafted plot.

The characters are amazing, with a kick-ass heroine and a to-die-for hero. Really, Axe is the alpha of the alphas. He is dominant when he must be, but he is comfortable enough with himself to let his female shine.

The passionate scenes are well-described without being excessive, and they permeate the story without taking away from the plot’s flow.

Wow, have I mentioned this book is packed with action and heat? It took me two hours to devour the story and I’ve finished without knowing who do I want to meet next. Really there are so many amazing secondary characters that I don’t know which one is my favorite. All I know is that I’m ready to read the next Prymal today!

This Blog Hop’s theme is Friendship. Next Wednesday, September 3rd, would have been my childhood BFF’s fifty-eight birthday. June 30th was the sixth anniversary of the death of Scottie, an incredible person and someone who made my life, and those of all privileged enough to be called friend, joyful.
Somewhere, somehow, sometime, in our youth, Tamarind, Scottie, and I became “The Three Musketeers.” Knowing Scottie, she would want us to celebrate her life, and I do so by giving you a sneak preview of my upcoming release, Book Two in the Prymal Series, Prymal Obsession and sharing at the end Scottie’s favorite Tamarind Ribs recipe.

Prymal Obsession:

The primal call of Mate Claim sparks a battle among the three species of shifters—Wylfen, Feral, & Rogue—and has for generations. These violent feuds incite hunts by humankind, driving shifters near extinction. To protect their people the aristocratic Wylfen ban the practice of Mate Claim. When a Rogue alpha claims a Wylfen female, the mated pair forms a coalition with a Feral male. An alliance is created: Prymal, a new species & pack born of Rogue, Wylfen, & Feral. And war begins…

Brut Jurango’s pack is one of butt-ugly misfits, and he’s devoted to each and every member. When his mate and his entire pack are’s slaughtered, he lives for one sole purpose–revenge. Brut’s a mixed breed, wolf, panther, and human. He had a mate, and shifters are supposed to have only one in a lifetime. So why can’t he resist Sidonie Walker’s call? Or is this just one more lie proliferated by the Wylfen?

Excerpt – Prymal Obsession – R- Rated:
This excerpt actually takes place in the first book in the series, Prymal Lust. This is when Brut and Sidonie first meet while Tania, the heroine, is auditioning to become the chef for the tapas bar, The Grape Escape, which Sidonie owns.

“They’re here.” Bandit stalked to her side. “Take a deep breath, darlin’. Now, smile. Your tasting menu’s delicious, eclectic, and a complete winner. If this idiot can’t recognize you’re a five star chef, then he doesn’t deserve you.”

Tania shot him a grateful glance. “I can’t thank you enough.”

She swept a glance around the other Prymal members. “All of you. I couldn’t have finished all this without you. I owe you each and every one of you. Big time.”

“Did we tell you our newly adopted motto? All for one and one for all.” The Kydd smiled at her.

Jurango studied the ceiling for a brief second and shook his head.

The back door eased open.

“That’s quite the tale, Sidonie.” Axe’s deep voice resonated through the kitchen.

Tania held her breath, her gaze glued to the widening space between the door and the kitchen wall. She blinked. Knuckled her eyes and re-focused.

A walking sex bomb pranced into the room.

The curvaceous woman had to be no more than five feet, but the six inch stilettos she wore thrust an alluring décolletage forward, and gave her the illusion of height.

She shot Axe what could only be described as a come-f**k-me, sex-kitten smile. “Querido call me Sid. Everyone does. Hmmm, this kitchen smells so delish, I’m about to have a foodie-orgasm.”

Tania bit her tongue. Fisted her hands. She had just so lost the job of chef at The Grape Escape. If ‘Sid’ so much as touched Axe the woman would have two black eyes and be thrown down the deck stairs.

Wild strawberry blonde curls danced around tanned, muscle-defined bare shoulders when Sid did a half pirouette. Her piercing blue eyes honed onto Jurango, slouched in his usual corner between the fridge and the counter. She waved slender fingers with oval-shaped lilac-painted nails. Her focus never wavered from Jurango. “Introduce me, Axe.”

Tania worked her jaw when the sleaze planted one hand on her hip and assumed a perfect red-carpet-pose.

Eva sidled closer to Tania. “What the heck is she not wearing?”

‘Sid’ almost wore a jeans skirt, a mauve spaghetti-strapped tank top with a short unzipped denim jacket. The pastel purple tank should’ve clashed with her hair, but instead somehow made her perfect ringlet curls glow. The skirt’s hem just, just brushed the apex of Sid’s shapely and toned thighs.

Tania barely managed to jerk her thoughts from murderous mayhem when Axe said, “Sid, this is my fiancée, Tania. Tania, meet Sidonie, the owner of The Grape Escape. Sid, in order, meet Eva, Jurango, The Kydd, Bandit, and Lycus.”

Tania spread her lips. Snarled, “Hello Sid. You’re late, Axe.”

Axe quirked a brow.

“Oh, dahling, don’t blame your hunky man. It was all my fault. I had to clean up a little ‘situation’ at the wine bar.” Sid beamed and ringed a finger around the tank’s neckline.

Not once had Sid looked Tania’s way.

The woman couldn’t haul her stare from Jurango’s scowling face. “Jurango, was it? Such an unusual name. Are you part of Tania’s cooking retinue?”

Jurango straightened. “No ma’am. I’m a simple ranch hand. With work to do. Later.”

Sid flinched as if struck physically. She recovered her aplomb in a millisecond and flashed a flawless, dimpled smile. Bright pink washed over her cheeks, but she firmed her chin, and traced Jurango’s rapid exit. Inspected the floor for a mere half a heartbeat. Took a deep inhale. “Not one for words, your Jurango.”

“Don’t take it personally, darlin’. He’s like that with everyone.” Bandit’s pleasant tone belied the anger glistening in his blue-black eyes.

Thumb hooked in a belt loop, the Kydd ambled over to Sidonie, and flashed her the smile that had won the retired UFC fighter turned actor a million followers on Facebook. He tipped his Stetson back to a rakish angle and drawled, “An absolute pleasure to meet you, sugah. The Grape Escape’s just become my favorite watering hole. I’ll round up my Hollywood buddies for the grand opening. Anything else you need, sugah, just whistle. I’ll get your cell from Tania later. Expect my call. It pains me to have to leave, but I’ve a prior commitment.”

Stunned, Tania couldn’t do anything but stare at The Kydd. She missed Sidonie’s reply to The Kydd’s declaration, and traced him as he strolled out the kitchen doorway.

Axe, looking prickle-pear cactus irritated, engaged Sidonie in a low conversation.

“Is it me, or did Kydd Kolton just announce Sidonie’s his newest f**k target?” Eva whispered.

Tania managed to retrieve her jaw from the floor. “Wow. I do believe that we just witnessed the formation of a sexual triangle inferno.”

“The static electricity in this room could fuel half of San Diego.” Eva did a mock-swipe of her forehead. “Whew.”

Hope you enjoyed!

ribs close up (2)Scottie’s Tamarind Ribs Recipe

Marinade
5lbs Baby Back ribs
Coarse ground salt and pepper- it really does make a difference if you freshly grind both
1 cup Ketchup
2 level tablespoons soya sauce
3 level tablespoons tamarind concentrate (you can get this at Asian groceries)
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
Four minced large garlic cloves (you can adjust this, I love garlic)
A dash of hot sauce, your favorite, to taste (I have one son who loves hot, one who can’t abide, so I always err on the light side)
Depending upon the company coming, I may add a dash of either peanut or sesame oil to taste. I have a friend who is allergic to peanuts– check with your guests. Seal the ribs and the marinade in a plastic bag and turn every 12 hours for 24 hours.
Preheat your oven to the lowest possible temperature, which is probably around 170. Seal the ribs in two layers of aluminum foil (we say al-oo-m-i-u-m, you say aloominum). Set the ribs on a non-stick pan and roast for around 8 hours.

Barbeque
Preheat the grill to the highest setting. Sear the ribs (they’re already cooked). Serve with lots of tamarind sauce (recipe follows).

rib sauceTamarind Sauce
1 lb raw tamarind pods, brittle outer coating removed (hah, you Trinis say — talk about spouting the obvious. Ahem, I do live in the US and lawsuits…need I say more?)
1 cup brown sugar — Demerara if you can find it
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 heaped teaspoon each of minced ginger, garlic, and thyme
1 cup dark unflavored rum
Salt and pepper to taste

Simmer the above ingredients until the mixture thickens (alternately, you can do this in a slow cooker overnight), drain, and serve with the ribs.

My side dishes to this are usually crusty toasted French bread and a potato/green bean/ bacon/ salad tossed with a blue cheese vinaigrette. The green beans are healthy, the potato is the starch, and, well, the blue cheese and the bacon are food for your soul. Of course, wine and beer just add to the gusto!
