And now for the big reveal – here is your first Vengeance Hammer Excerpt:

Vengeance lost.

Fate had cheated him. Dráddør fingered the runes carved into his weapon, the enormous steel mallet he’d named Hefnd Hamarr, Vengeance Hammer, in anticipation of the day he would fulfill the oath made to his dying father. Disgust, crippling and oppressive, banded his chest as he surveyed the smoke-infused, empty great hall.

“’Twas an easy victory.” His friend and ally, Tighe, Earl of Dalriada, heaved a long sigh. “Not a fitting one, mayhap…”

“Arnfinn died by his wife’s hand. Not by mine.” Dráddør snorted. “I cannot fulfill my vow of vengeance.”

“Nay, I beg to differ. You have in your hand the ultimate revenge. Once you wed and bed his daughter, the title is yours, all that he ever owned is yours, and his line is erased. Think you, Arnfinn, Earl of Caithness, will rest easy knowing that your blood prevails? That his daughter will sire your son?”

Tighe rested a booted foot on the fireplace’s lintel and prodded the half-charred mound of logs with a metal rod. Bright orange sparks sprayed in a wide arc and the fitful flames blossomed into long plumes.

“The notion of swiving Arnfinn’s spawn holds no appeal.” Dráddør scowled.

Tighe shrugged. “One prick and you are Earl of Caithness. Shite man, you have gained a region as vast as Dalriada with no effort. The castle is intact and the keep secured. Take your nose out of your arse and do what must be done.”

Hope you enjoyed!

I’m at the Romantic Times convention in Kansas, Missouri this week. I’ll be posting pics on Twitter and Facebook, so stay tuned. Let me know if there are any author pics you’re interested in and I’ll try to get them for you.

Cheers,

Vengeance Hammer – Title Me Not

logo - jiannecarlo4 for blogStrange title for a book – Vengeance Hammer, isn’t it? Over the last while, I’ve had a ton of people ask how the titles of my books come about and the honest answer is – usually they come from me. For some strange reason, I cannot begin writing a story until I have a title. I know it’s weird and, trust me, nothing about my creative process is normal or follows any kind of pattern.

In my day job, I am a numbers person, a totally logical A to B and then to C person. Throw in a tale and logic flies out the window. Being a normally (and I use that word with the utmost caution) rational individual, I have tried over and over to document and improve the way I write. What has this to do with titles, you ask?

Well the fact is I can’t start a book without a title.  Go figure. It may take weeks or months or a single second to come up with the right title – A Paratrooper in a Pear Tree took minutes, Alpha Me Not I labored over for months, and yet in one week this year, I came up with the ideas for not one, but seven books!!! And I cannot tell you how or why any single one of those came about.

It drives me batty.

There are times when I actively dislike this need to write- truly- it’s simply not explainable or in any way shape or form, logical. I like rationality, I relish predictability, I savor order- and none of that ever applies to how a book evolves in my head. Why do you ask am I telling you this? Because overnight the ideas for three new books sprouted.

Shoot me.

I can’t keep up with my poor, irrational, obsessive writer brain.

*Thunk, thunk* – that’s the sound of me hitting my head on the wall.

Stop. Stop. No more ideas.

That’s it – I’m off to write as fast as my hands and Dragon Naturally Speaking will allow me. BTW – I am in edits for Vengeance Hammer, and cannot start anything new – isn’t that justifiable suicide karma?

*Thunk, thunk*

Cheers,

Jianne

P.S. One of my best titles came from Georgia Woods – The Bear and The Bride – kudos G, and many thanks.

Written in the Stars Conference

Njal - yumDougKoziak01 (2)Tomorrow I head to Houston, Texas to meet my good friend and fellow author, Lynn Lorenz.

Woo Hoo! Road Trip!

We drive (4 hours – loads of gossip time) to Shreveport, Louisiana to attend the Written in the Stars Conference. So exciting.

It’s wonderful to meet new writers and readers, listen to the experts in the industry, and re-charge my creative batteries. I always come away from a conference brimming with new ideas, so when I return I’ll be posting my What’s Cooking page. There you’ll find a list of what I’m working on currently and what I hope to finish before the end of the year.

Here are some hints – two new Hades Squad books, a new SEAL series,  a new Wolf series, and for all of those who’ve asked a new viking series starring Mús, Tighe, and a couple of new heroes. As you can tell I’m revved up for hot romance, nerve-wracking suspense, supernatural shifters, and more Vikings!!!

The guy in the pic is my inspiration for my latest hero, Torch, a wounded wolf SEAL.

Isn’t he drool-worthy? Sigh.

Have a great hunk (my version of hump) day!

Cheers,

Jianne
